a wet holiday weekend around the bay area. we'll tell you if your christmas weather will be nasty or nice. return to index of stories... and it will most likely be a white christmas in the sierra as the lake tahoe area gets dumped with several feet of snow this holiday weekend. >> we're here in the weather center keeping an eye on the rain. you mentioned not just a strong storm today janu christmas. >> we are expecting showers or christmas. however, you can see on the radar is pretty nasty, and completely let up. in a few areas of breaks of dry conditions petaluma mainly showers and in by the green. moderate indicated by the yellow. even with the bay bridge, burlingame and the same in the senate to go toward a mixture of light flashed moderate in some of the above the green is indicating light showers pretty heavy and this area,

richmond, berkeley, oakland, alameda, wofford slashed heavy. and for the inland areas we are seeing a light rain from dublin, livermore, danville. with wind-- so after this latest soaking >> we want to find out how the north bay is faring. that is where the rain is falling the hardest.

to get you more news faster, let's turn to our solo reporter kron four's mike pelton live at the corte madera shopping center. >> let me show you some video from pounding amounts of rainfall. over this weekend, storms from a one-2 in.. there is also a wind advisory until 1 this afternoon. you could see wind gusting from 40 m.p.h.- 50 m.p.h. it is shaking the trees. airline the water, the wind blowing the trees not ideal conditions if you have to leave the house. marty, so many people have extra presence and last minute items. if you have to go out? you might want to get an umbrella. >> an umbrella and the viet warm coat. perhaps there could be some clearing.

>> new overnight, all lanes of interstate 8-80 are back open this morning after a nine vehicle collision in oakland. the crash happened just after five this morning on northbound 8-80 just south of interstate 9-80. its not known if the collision was weather related. injured. >> the wet weather didn't keep people inside in the east bay. in walnut creek, shoppers hit the streets to catch those last minute christmas bargains. >> it is perfect! who knew it was christmas? >> reporter: do you feel the same way? >> i do not know about perfect. >> many were prepared.carrying umbrellas and wearing layers of clothing. some that we talked to say they didn't mind the wet weather. shoppers will still have

with a wind gust advisory in afternoon. winds could reach up to 60 miles per hour with the strongest gusts expected hills. >> a fatal head-on crash on highway 1-0-1 killed a novato man saturday afternoon. it happened north of the central san rafael off ramp. the c-h-p says the man lost control of his car and hit a call box and then veered through all 3 lanes of traffic. then he went over the center divider and hit a car in the southbound lane. there were 2 kids and 2 adults in the other car. they were transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. c-h-p is investigating what caused the man to lose control of his car. >> new this morning. one man is dead and two others are recovering after two shootings in oakland saturday. police responded to a report of a shooting in the 11- hundred block of 32nd streettwo men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. one was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. police say another man was injured in a different shooting just after 4:30. that man was taken to the hospital in stable condition. no arrests have been made in either shooting. >> today, the n-r-a released

a statement saying it will not budge in the group's opposition to new gun laws. the announcement comes as protestors in san francisco staged a dramatic demonstration against gun violence. it's part of a nationwide effort to ban assault weapons and to pay respect to the victims and families in newtown, connecticut. kron4's jeff pierce has the story. >> we are here to represent the twenty six people who were massacred in newton connectticut (naming of vitims) >> reporter: local members of the brady campaign the national group that has crusaded for the ban of assault weapons for over three decades laid on the cold concrete of justin hermin plaza in san francisco saturday afternoon. >> we've been losing children to gun violence for a long time, i'm hoping this is the straw that broke the camels back. >> it has a greater impact

when it is twenty kids at once there is something about first graders that strikes peoples hearts. >> reporter: the brady campaign and others like them are mobilizing to keep the dialogue this national tragedy has created in the forefront of their effort to ban assault weapons. >> i'm hoping that these twenty six people did not die in vain that these twenty children, their lives have to mean something and this is what they are going to mean. >> reporter: the campaign is encouraged that their pleas have finally reached as far as the president himself. >> with him establishing the commission with joe biden in charge of it bringing back a set of proposals that he has pledged that he will do we are very hopeful that this time something will change. >> reporter: that hope is tempered by the tragedy that brought it about. >> >> it's unfortunate what we have said what has to happen, how many people have to die, what age the people have to be to really make a solid change in this country and unfortunately we have seen what that tragedy has been.

>> and plenty of snow. forecasters predict snow to continue in the sierra today. look at this. the snow is expected to add trouble to conditions forecasters are already calling a whiteout. traffic began moving again late yesterday on interstate-80 after several spin-outs forced police to shut the roadway down.

tire chain laws expected. conditions were so bad, i-80 was closed all the way to the nevada state line. some areas could see as much as five feet of snow by the time the weekend's over. turning to international news,voters in egypt have endorsed a new islamist- backed constitution after a second round of voting. that's according to the muslim brotherhood, which announced the unofficial results this morning. the document expands president mohammed morsi's powers, giving him immunity from the courts. egypt's election commission is expected to announce official results tomorrow. but a low voter turnout of around 30 percent. and allegations of voting fraud threatens to undermine the legitimacy of the new constitution. >> police in new delhi today are using water cannons to break up huge protests against a brutal gang rape. six suspects have been arrested in last sunday's attack on a 23-year old student on a bus who is currently hospitalized and battling for her life.. indian officials have promised to consider the

day around the bay with christmas, it looks like we could add some showers. widespread. showers on wednesday and mainly sunny by thursday. >> this weekend marks the sixth anniversary of the fatal shooting of san francisco police officer bryan tuvera. you're looking at video from a memorial ceremony in 2007. tuvera was killed while trying to arrest an escapee from a state prison work camp. the suspect fled into a home near 25th avenue and lawton street in the sunset. he opened fire on the police officers as they tried to enter the home. killing tuvera. a contra costa county employment and human services worker has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing food stamp funding. >> tina crosby was arrested on thursday on suspicion of embezzling public funds. falsifying records. and identity theft. an investigation by the district attorney's office and crosby's work revealed

that she had embezzled more than five-thousand dollars in public funds. crosby is being charged with four felonies and is facing a maximum sentence of four years in prison. >> in national news from newtown connecticut, funerals this weekend for the young victims of the sandy hook elementary school shooting. seven year old josephine gay. joey as she was often called. loved the color purple, her i-pad, and barbie dolls. her parents said she had a zest for life. a 90 minute service was held for her saturday. with people leaving cards and notes outside the church. police officers were also there, paying their respects. and in utah. another victim of the school massacre was laid to rest. a service for six year old emilie parker was held across the street from where her parents first started dating. emile was buried next to her grandfather. he died just a few months ago. residents of ogden, utah tied pink ribbons around trees to show their support. pink was emilie's favorite color.

>> as newtown held funerals, one after another, all week long, one radio station in town became a shoulder to cry on for many locals. a video of the last several hours. there rain is continuing to pound but on the screen it has been like this all morning in the north bay, it is expected to see the highest rainfall totals for this weekend. with one-still, 3 in. expected in the wind advisory for the north bay until 1:00 p.m. that means that we could see wind gusting of 40 m.p.h.-50 m.p.h. i felt those for the past 30-45 minutes it is shaking the cars it is so difficult for people to still purchase items for the holidays. in the next couple of days i guess this is the price that you pay if you wait until the last minute. >> for some them from shopping. >> let us take a look had a another portion from mount

costa county >> a contra costa county employment and human services worker has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing food stamp funding. tina crosby was arrested on thursday on suspicion of embezzling public funds. falsifying records. and identity theft. an investigation by the district attorney's office and crosby's work revealed that she had embezzled more than five-thousand dollars in public funds. crosby is being charged with four felonies and is facing a maximum sentence of four >> in national news from newtown connecticut, funerals this weekend for the young victims of the sandy hook elementary school shooting. seven year old josephine gay. joey as she was often called. loved the color purple, her i-pad, and barbie dolls. her parents said she had a zest for life. a 90 minute service was held for her saturday. with people leaving cards and notes outside the church. police officers were also there, paying their respects. >> and in utah. another victim of the school massacre was laid to rest.

>> state game wardens now say they regret killing two baby mountain lions earlier this month in half moon bay. initial reports suggested the cats were about 30 pounds and close to 10 on inspection, it was discovered that the cubs were closer to four months old. about the size of typical house cats, and that hunger brought them into a neighborhood. they were shot december 1st when wardens were unable to chase them back into the wild. the state department for fish and game is now re- evaluating procedures for dealing with mountain lions and bears. >> a law enforcement crackdown in the past two weeks has resulted in a significant number of dui arrests in santa clara county.
